The NSPCC is the UK’s leading children’s charity, working to prevent child abuse and neglect, support families, and help children recover and thrive. It is also the only UK children’s charity with statutory powers, which means it can take action to safeguard children at risk.
The Black Tie Casino Ball is one of their flagship fundraising evenings, designed to bring supporters together, celebrate the impact of the charity’s work, and raise vital funds through sponsorship, donations and shared storytelling.

What The Photoshoot Achieved

VIP and keynote coverage with impact
Luxury details that elevate the event brand
Evergreen marketing assets for fundraising
The Client Brief
The NSPCC’s Black Tie Casino Ball is more than an event, it’s a celebration of courage, generosity, and community, all in support of protecting children. For this formal charity gala, the goal was to capture the grandeur, elegance, and emotion of the evening. From sharp tuxedos to heartfelt speeches, the brief called for a full visual narrative, highlighting the formal atmosphere, dynamic energy, and the inspiring fundraising mission behind the night.
The event also featured keynote speaker David Tait MBE, a mountaineer and NSPCC ambassador known for climbing Mount Everest five times and raising over £7.5 million for the cause. My photos were commissioned for use in promoting future events, donor communications, and social media marketing.

What a joy it is to work with Nate - he recently volunteered his photography services to the NSPCC for our big black tie event. He was organised, punctual, engaging as ever and captured the spirit and tone of the event beautifully. I can't recommend him enough!

The Creative Approach
A week before the ball, I met with the organiser to walk through the schedule, the venue layout and the key priorities, so we were aligned on portraits, candid storytelling, décor, and speaker coverage. That planning meant I could work confidently and discreetly on the night.
On the evening, I arrived early to set up for the low light conditions in the ballroom and to photograph the room before guests filled it. Once the event began, I worked in a documentary style, blending in as an extra guest so people felt comfortable and the moments stayed real. The aim was to balance polished, formal imagery with the warmth of genuine connection, capturing laughter, toasts, embraces and the emotional beats that make charity events so powerful.

A Personal Note from Nate
Because the right photographs help a fundraising night keep making a difference long after the final speech.
Emotion is the heartbeat of charity events
The glamour matters, but what stays with you are the human moments. I focus on expressions, connection, and the small interactions that show why people have come together to support a cause.
Respectful coverage, without interrupting it
A black tie ball needs a calm presence. I work quietly, keep people feeling at ease, and photograph what unfolds naturally so the gallery feels honest rather than staged.
Images that support the next campaign
The real value is what happens afterwards. A strong set of photographs helps the NSPCC thank supporters, report on the success of the night, and inspire future guests and donors to get involved.
