Case Study: Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (Personal Project, Not Commissioned)

Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship photography at Snetterton, capturing rounds 19–21 with dynamic panning, motion blur, and creative selective colour edits. A personal project that shaped my storytelling approach and set the tone for future motorsport and automotive photography commissions.

Meet The Client

Key Deliverables

This wasn’t a client brief, it was about passion, practice, and progress. From the day, I captured:

  • High-speed panning shots of BTCC cars in full motion,

  • Supporting races including Mini Challenge, Ginetta Junior, British F4, Ginetta GT4 Supercup and Porsche Carrera Cup,

  • Creative re-edits in 2025 to enhance motion and energy,

  • Selective colour treatments to highlight cars against monochrome backdrops,

  • A personal body of work that continues to inspire and inform my commercial photography.

About The Championship

The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship is one of the UK’s most iconic racing series, drawing thousands of fans and some of the world’s best touring car teams. Across rounds 19, 20, and 21 at Snetterton Race Track, I immersed myself in the action,  capturing not only the touring cars but also the supporting classes, from Minis to Ginettas to Porsche Carrera Cup.

For me, this was more than a weekend with a camera,  it was a step into a world I’d admired since childhood, when I first played BTCC on PlayStation and dreamed of one day being trackside.

What The Photoshoot Achieved

A race weekend, told as a story

Built a cohesive set of images across rounds 19–21 at Snetterton, capturing not just the headline touring cars but the wider atmosphere and supporting series, the full energy of the weekend in one body of work

Proved I can photograph speed

Demonstrated technical control at 100mph+ with high-speed panning, intentional motion blur, and sharp action moments, translating noise, movement and pressure into clean, dynamic frames.

Created a bold, creative edit style

Re-edited the project in 2025 to push motion and intensity even further, using selective colour to make the cars pop against monochrome backgrounds and amplify the sense of drama.

A portfolio piece that shaped future work

Turned a personal passion project into a confident motorsport/automotive showcase, a set of images that still informs my commercial storytelling approach and the kind of commissions I want to shoot next.

The Client Brief (My Own Words)

I wasn’t hired for this project, it was purely personal. But in many ways, it was the beginning of everything that’s led me to Nate Lansdell Photography.

As a neurodivergent photographer, I’ve always been fascinated by engineering. I wouldn’t call myself a petrolhead, but I love vehicles, planes, trains, and cars, and motorsport always had a pull. The BTCC was one of those dreams.

Being trackside at Snetterton was about testing myself. Could I capture speed at 100mph+, could I freeze the drama of a corner battle, could I translate that hum of engines into still frames? This was my chance to find out.

Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship

Nate was an absolute star when he came into our office to get headshots and office shots of me & the team. I loved the fact that he really took the time before the shoot to understand exactly what we wanted out of it and made sure that he turned up on the day with a full brief and all the right equipment for the shots required. The team were not exactly enthusiastic about the photoshoot (who is?) but Nate was brilliant at making everyone feel at ease and in doing so he got some lovely natural shots that totally captured everyone's individual personality as well as our team dynamics. Nate is friendly, relaxed, engaging but very professional and efficient. He has a lovely way with everyone and was delightful for the whole 4 hours he spent with us. Not only that, we had a tight turnaround for the photos themselves and Nate went above and beyond to edit the photos and provide the finished gallery to us within days of the shoot. This was very much appreciated. The photos are now proudly being used across our socials and website. I would highly recommend Nate for headshots, natural office shots & all types of corporate photography.

The Creative Approach

Over the race weekend, I pushed myself technically. Using a low shutter speed, I panned with cars to create the sense of blur and momentum, sometimes letting the background dissolve into streaks of colour while keeping the vehicle sharp. At other times, I froze the action to showcase detail,  tyres lifting, wings cutting air, sparks of gravel flying.

What makes this project even more special is how I revisited it later. Sitting in my office in 2025, I re-opened the folder and was honestly blown away by what I’d captured, even before I was working professionally. With my current editing skills, I brought those images to life,  introducing selective colour techniques that strip back everything except the cars, making them explode with vibrancy against a monochrome track.

This wasn’t just photography. It was play, exploration, and the beginning of my storytelling voice in motorsport.

A Personal Note from Nate

Because sometimes the projects you don’t get paid for turn out to be the ones that shape you the most.

Every passion has a starting line

For me, BTCC at Snetterton was it. The day I stopped dreaming about photography and started doing it.

Photography is engineering in emotion

Motorsport is about precision, speed, mechanics. But what I captured was feeling, adrenaline, grit, connection between driver and machine.

Where it’s going

This portfolio piece is a reminder of what’s possible. Motorsport, automotive branding, racing teams, I’d love to bring this energy to future commissions.
